Modification of customs duties applicable to imports of certain goods originating in or exported from the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus
This vote is about higher customs duties on certain Russian and Belarusian goods, notably fertilisers and farm products.
Background
Despite the war in Ukraine, the EU was still importing farm products and above all fertilisers from Russia and Belarus, indirectly funding the Russian economy and making European farmers dependent.
- Applies tariffs to Russian and Belarusian farm products that were not yet taxed.
- Gradually raises duties on fertilisers over three years to a level that makes importing them almost impossible.
- Provides for monitoring of fertiliser prices to protect European farmers.
Adopted: 411 for, 100 against, 78 abstentions, 130 did not vote.
