Background
The first motion of censure against the second von der Leyen Commission, tabled by Romanian MEP Gheorghe Piperea (European Conservatives and Reformists group). An adopted motion would force the whole Commission to resign.
- It criticised in particular Ursula von der Leyen’s lack of transparency over text messages exchanged with Pfizer’s CEO during Covid vaccine negotiations (“Pfizergate”).
- It also criticised the management of some EU funds.
- To pass, a motion needs two thirds of the votes cast and a majority of all MEPs.
