Motion of censure on the Commission
This vote is about a motion of censure to bring down the European Commission.
Background
On 9 October 2025, Parliament voted on two motions of censure against the von der Leyen Commission, one tabled by the Patriots for Europe (far right), the other by The Left. An adopted motion would force the whole Commission to resign.
- Both motions criticised in particular the Commission’s trade policy, including the Mercosur agreement and the trade deal with the United States, each with its own arguments.
- To pass, a motion needs two thirds of the votes cast and a majority of all MEPs.
Rejected: 179 for, 378 against, 37 abstentions, 125 did not vote.
