Background
The European Defence Industry Programme (EDIP) is the EU’s first programme to support arms production, against the backdrop of the war in Ukraine. It aims to produce more and faster in Europe, and to buy more together.
- Provides €1.5 billion from the EU budget until 2027.
- Encourages joint purchases between member states and favours products made mostly in Europe.
- Includes a strand supporting Ukraine’s defence industry.
Rejected: 116 for, 490 against, 43 abstentions, 70 did not vote.
