Deforestation Regulation: certain obligations of operators and traders
This vote is about the EU deforestation law and postponing certain obligations for companies.
Background
The EU Deforestation Regulation, adopted in 2023, bans the sale in the EU of coffee, cocoa, soy, palm oil, beef, wood or rubber from land deforested after 2020. Companies and several partner countries found it too burdensome to implement; its application had already been postponed once.
- Postpones application by another year: end of 2026 for large and medium-sized companies, mid-2027 for small ones.
- Eases obligations for some operators, notably those who only resell products already checked.
- Asks the Commission for a review to simplify the system.
Rejected: 134 for, 526 against, 6 abstentions, 53 did not vote.
