Motion of censure on the Commission
This vote is about a motion of censure to bring down the European Commission.
Background
A motion of censure lets Parliament bring down the entire European Commission. This one was tabled by Jordan Bardella, president of the Patriots for Europe, a few days after the trade agreement between the EU and the Mercosur countries (Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay) was signed on 17 January 2026. It was the fourth motion of censure in seven months against the von der Leyen Commission.
- Accuses the Commission of signing the Mercosur deal despite opposition from farmers and several member states.
- To pass, a motion needs two thirds of the votes cast and a majority of all MEPs (361).
