Non-application of customs duties on imports of certain goods
This vote is about removing customs duties on imports of certain goods.
Background
In August 2025 the EU and the United States reached a political deal to avoid a trade war: the US caps most of its tariffs on European goods at 15%, and in return the EU removes its duties on US industrial goods. This text, negotiated with governments, implements the European side.
- Removes tariffs on US industrial goods and opens access for some seafood and farm products.
- Extends the duty-free treatment of US lobster until 2030.
- Allows suspension if the US does not keep its commitments, notably on steel and aluminium, and expires automatically at the end of 2029 unless extended.
- Allows investigations and action if a surge of imports harms European industry or agriculture.
