Economic and budgetary surveillance of Member States in the euro area experiencing or threatened with serious difficulties with respect to their financial stability
This vote is about budgetary surveillance of euro-area countries in serious financial difficulty.
Background
Euro-area countries that received financial assistance (such as Greece, Ireland or Portugal) then remain under enhanced surveillance until a large part of their loans is repaid. This text adapts these rules to the 2024 reform of EU fiscal rules.
- Focuses post-programme surveillance on the country’s capacity to repay and on unfinished reforms.
- Builds the national medium-term fiscal plans created by the 2024 reform into adjustment programmes.
- Lightens surveillance when the risk of non-repayment is low.
