The EU’s approach to corporate tax policy in a changing international environment
This vote is about EU corporate tax policy in a changing international context.
Background
This report, prepared by the Economic Affairs Committee with Hungarian MEP Kinga Kollár (EPP) as rapporteur, sets out Parliament’s position on corporate tax. It comes as the 15% global minimum tax (OECD “Pillar Two”) is being called into question, notably by a “side-by-side” deal with the United States.
- Argues for a stable, predictable and simple tax environment that supports competitiveness while leaving room for national choices.
- Calls for further simplification, at the OECD and in the EU, and for the common tax base project (BEFIT) to be reworked into a narrower proposal.
- A left-wing amendment calling for a tax on the excess profits of large oil and gas companies was rejected (347 votes to 247).
