This vote is about a pilot project for alliances between European schools to teach citizenship and democracy.
Background
In its 2026 work programme, the Commission announced a pilot project for “European Schools Alliances”: lasting networks of schools from several countries, modelled on the European Universities alliances. Here Parliament gives its view on what the project should deliver.
- Supports structured, long-term cooperation between schools in different countries, beyond one-off exchange projects.
- Wants these alliances to strengthen citizenship education, democratic skills and knowledge of the EU.
- Builds on the “European Partnerships for School Development” planned under Erasmus+ in 2026.
Adopted: 443 for, 98 against, 47 abstentions, 131 did not vote.
