Boosting skills in the Union – opportunities for vocational education and training in times of transition
This vote is about developing vocational education and training to cope with the green and digital transitions.
Background
This own-initiative report from the Employment and Social Affairs Committee, drafted by Dutch MEP Brigitte van den Berg (Renew Europe), sets out Parliament’s views ahead of the Commission’s upcoming EU strategy on vocational education and training (VET). According to Cedefop, 60% of job openings by 2035 will require VET-type qualifications. The text is non-binding: it makes recommendations.
- Calls for VET to be better valued in society, on a par with higher education.
- Calls for more investment to improve the quality and relevance of training, including by updating curricula to regional needs and to the impact of artificial intelligence.
- Supports more mobility for VET learners and workers, in particular through Erasmus+.
