Mobilisation of the European Globalisation Adjustment Fund for Displaced Workers: application EGF/2026/004 FI/Etelä-Suomi and Helsinki-Uusimaa paper – Finland
This vote is about EU support for laid-off paper industry workers in southern Finland.
Background
The European Globalisation Adjustment Fund helps workers made redundant as a result of major economic change. Finland applied for support for 351 paper-industry workers laid off in the Etelä-Suomi and Helsinki-Uusimaa regions, hit by falling paper demand due to digitalisation and by the halt in Russian wood imports. Parliament approves the Commission’s proposal.
- Mobilises around €1.1 million from the Fund, 60% of a total cost of around €1.8 million, with the rest financed nationally.
- Funds job-search support, vocational training, business start-up support and mobility allowances.
- Also supports a pilot project using artificial intelligence to anticipate recruitment needs.
Adopted: 609 for, 51 against, 14 abstentions, 46 did not vote.
