General budget of the European Union for the financial year 2027 – all sections
This vote is about the EU budget for 2027.
Background
Every year, Parliament and the Member States (the Council) must agree on the EU budget for the following year. For 2027, the last annual budget of the 2021-2027 financial framework, the Council wanted to cut the Commission’s draft by around €1 billion. Parliament, with Nils Ušakovs (S&D) as general rapporteur and Michalis Hadjipantela (EPP) for the other sections, here adopts its own position, opening three weeks of negotiations with the Council.
- Reverses the cuts proposed by the Council and asks for €1.17 billion more than the Commission’s draft.
- Boosts in particular transport and energy networks (+€260 million), Erasmus+ (+€96 million), the LIFE programme (+€85 million) and the Civil Protection Mechanism (+€80 million).
- Calls for the repayment of the NextGenerationEU recovery plan and of the Ukraine Support Loan to be funded through dedicated instruments rather than by cutting existing programmes.
